The term "gay" describes the attraction to the same (or a similar) gender. While it originally was used by gay men and lesbians it nowadays is also commonly used by non-binary, GNC and agender people.

The rainbow pride flag was created in 1978 by the artist Gilbert Baker and debuted at the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Parade. The flag also is the traditional symbol of the LGBTQ+ movement and now represents the queer community as a whole.
🎨 Flag History and Alterations
Original Gay Pride Flag (1978)
The original version of the flag included two aditional stripes for sexuality (pink) and magic and art (turqoise). They got removed because of fabric availability which lead to the nowadays well known and recognized form.
Philadelphia Pride Flag (2017)
In 2017 the City of Philadelphia decided to use a varient of the rainbow flag to namingly include BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) in an attempt to make the flag more inclusive.
